CTHT is an inter-professional association specialized in the support to horticultural products for export, and more specifically the cash crops like - clove, pepper, groove… Within the framework of its scientific and technical support to the smallholders, CTHT has implemented since 2001 many projects funded by the European Commission, such as Stabex funds) on the East coast of Madagascar. In relation to this Stabex projects, one can quote the project of support to the quality improvement and marketing of the clove in the district of East Fénérive (from 2008 to 2010) and the project of horticultural diversification in the area of Tamatave (from 2005 to 2010).

History of cooperation with the applicant

CTHT and CIRAD developed privileged relations since the implementation of the Centre in Tamatave in 2001. CIRAD brings technical and scientific support to CTHT through technical transfer, capacity building activities and training of the scientific and technical staff of CTHT. More recently, CIRAD acted as partner of CTHT within the framework of a project financed by the European Union and of which CTHT was the applicant. In this European project CIRAD scientists carried out expertise on the quality of the products from a range of traditional horticultural commodities such as: clove, coffee, vanilla… and carried out a transfer of know-how towards the staff of CTHT.

Role and involvement in preparing the proposed action

Contribution to the elaboration of the proposal concerning research activities on coastal agro-forests and more specifically on the quality of the products resulting from the clove cultivation in agro-forestry systems.

Role and involvement in implementing the proposed action

The CTHT will be involved in its capacity of inter-professional association through networking with local stakeholders, monitoring of field staff for trials and studies and making available its equipment and analytical facilities.
